Slow Cooked Beef & Noodles

Here's a yummy dish my dog loves.

Slow Cooked Beef and Noodles

3 lbs. beef stew, cut in 1" cubes
1/2 Cup flour
1/4 tsp. pepper
2 TBS paprika (optional)
2 cups chopped carrots
2 potatoes cubed
1 (8 oz.) can tomato sauce
2 TBS mustard
1 1/2 Cup beef stock - you can purchase low sodium canned beef stock if you don't make your own.

Roll the beef cubes in flour.
Brown beef cubes, a few at a time, in a skillet, with 2 TBS hot oil.
Add the browned beef to the slow cooker. Add all the other ingredients to the slow cooker.
Cover and cook on low for 6 to 8 hours.

If the sauce isn't thick enough, you can thicken the juices by mixing a tablespoon of flour with 1/4 cup water then slowly stir it into the juices in the slow cooker. Put the lid back on the slow cooker and turn it to high and let it cook for another 15 minutes.

Serve over cooked noodles.

The recipe calls for slow cooking, but it can easily be adapted to the oven, or even simmered on top the stove. Adjust the times so you don't over cook and end up with mush. If cooking on top the stove, I don't add the carrots and potatoes until the beef has simmered on low for 30 minutes. Add the potatoes and carrots, and cook another 10 - 15 minutes - until they are fork tender.

For smaller dogs, cut the beef into smaller pieces and be sure to cook the beef until it's tender.

Be sure to allow time for this to cool down before serving it to your dog. Keep all leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Or portion it out into freezer containers, label, and keep in the freezer.
